Witnesses are unhelpful, not dishonest. Cross out what a statement makes impossible and the board narrows itself, one certainty at a time.
Name the one left standing
When one arrangement survives, whoever shares the victim's room is the murderer. There is always exactly one answer, and you can always prove it.
